PRESS RELEASE.
PACIFIC MOVIE:
WORK ON THE MOVIE VERSION FOR THE
POPULAR SHOW- SAMOA MO SAMOA
IS NOW UNDERWAY.
“ I believe now is the right time to begin work on the movie version for the show Samoa mo Samoa, which screened at the Mangere Arts Centre in Mangere, Auckland NZ, March of this year. While the main historical events around the Mau movement will remain, there are other issues I would like to draw on as well, which the show did not explore.
After the show in March, I have been asked by many in our Samoan community and the wider community including those from the P.I. business sector, to consider the movie version. The response from the show was overwhelming and possitive, which is a great indicator as we move into this new direction. My original intention for the show from the outset, was to gain some constructive feed back from our community on a subject that is most sensitive, before taking this to the next level.
I wish to thank our Samoan people and members from our wider commuity for supporting our show. The undertaking for the movie version will be immense, although challenging, and I'm looking forward to building a new production team in the next few months and to bring a long time dream into fruition, in telling the story of The Mau through this medium. The movie will be an opportunity to celebrate our rich Samoan heritage which I believe, our Samoan people throughout the world will also enjoy. There are also universal themes such as peace and courage which will appeal to mainstream viewers.”
Obed Unasa. (Producer and originator of the show- Samoa mo Samoa, based on the true political events of the 1900's in Samoa, which finally lead to Samoa becoming the first Pacific Island nation to gain independence in 1962).
