The Court Carries on with Fundraising Concert
The Court Theatre will stage a one-night-only musical extravaganza in the Aurora Centre on July 7. CARRY ON COURT features numerous prominent New Zealand entertainers including George Henare and Ali Harper, all of whom have volunteered their time and energy to help raise funds for The Court’s new home “The Shed” in Addington.
CARRY ON COURT will feature Artistic Director Ross Gumbley as MC for the show at Burnside’s Aurora Centre on July 7 as part of its fundraising efforts. Gumbley has assembled a “stellar” cast including Paul Barrett, George Henare, Ali Harper, Nic Kyle, Yvonne Martin, Lynda Milligan and Michael Lee Porter, many of whom are travelling to Christchurch especially to perform in the fundraising show. “The Court holds a special place in the hearts of actors up and down the country,” says Gumbley, “it has been very heartening to have had so many offer their support.”
Christchurch musical director Luke Di Somma will conduct an evening of entertainment that includes hit songs from musicals recently produced by The Court, such as 'My Fair Lady', 'South Pacific', 'Guys and Dolls', and many more. Adds Di Somma - "This will be great and varied evening of music, sung by this country's finest singing actors. It is a joy to be able to help the Court Theatre rebuild in such sumptuous and glitzy fashion."
“We have $4.62million to raise in the next few months, so we are planning numerous fundraising activities,” says Chief Executive Philip Aldridge, “public support is essential.” Gumbley agrees. “CARRY ON COURT is a great excuse to get dressed up, have a glass of free bubbly and enjoy a great night out – and, at the same time, help The Court carry on.”
