AC/DC Grab Another #1
Nearly 72 years ago New Zealand warship Achilles was part of the Battle Of The River Plate off the South American coasts
of Uruguay and Argentina, one of the first sea battles of World War II.
This week Oz rockers AC/DC bring their Live At The River Plate straight to the top of the DVD Chart. The set was recorded in the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires over three sold-out
nights in front of 200,000 fans in December 2009 during its Black Ice Tour.
The New Singles
#3 Lady Gaga - The Edge Of Glory
The second long player proper Born This Way drops next Monday, but ever one to make an impact, 25-year-old Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta now has the third hit
from that set before it arrives. Making a better entry and impact than previous hit Judas (#18 this week), The Edge Of Glory is Gaga’s second highest entry point ever. It’s only bettered by title cut Born This Way which lead from the front at #1 for its first two chart weeks. In all, 13 hit singles belong to the woman who takes her
name from Queen’s 1984 #4 hit Radio Gaga.
#13 Nicki Minaj - Girls Fall Like Dominoes
Finally, Nicki Minaj (Onika Tanya Maraj) from Trinidad and Tobago breaks out scoring a hit all by herself. The tune that
makes the move is Girls Fall Like Dominoes which arrives at #13. It’s Nicki’s fourth hit in all. She’s also Top10 this week as part of the Where Them Girls At? collaboration with David Guetta and Flo Rida.
#17 Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (TGIF)
Recent visitor Katy Perry moves into the rare fifth hit from an album category, as track two from Teenage Dream moves into the list in the wake of her shows here. Last Friday Night (TGIF) has the #1 boots of Teenage Dream, E.T., Firework and California Gurls to follow in.
#24 Amanda Billing - Ever Fallen In Love?
Pete Shelley and Brit punk band Buzzcocks originally recorded Ever Fallen In Love? back in 1978. It first charted in 1987 for Fine Young Cannibals, making #23. Now Shortland Star actress Amanda Billing (aka Dr Sarah Potts) brings it back at #24 and gains her first hit in the process. Shortland Street stars teamed with Annie Crummer back in 1993 for the #3 Keeping Up The Love Thing, billed as The Katene Sisters who had featured in the soap.
#30 Stan Walker - Loud
Eighteen months and seven hits in the chart account now for the last person to be crowned Australian Idol. Stan Walker
pops in Loud at #30. He’s due to perform in Christchurch early June.
The New Albums?
It doesn’t happen that often but there are no new entries on the NZ Albums Chart this week. In the wake of the Mother's
Day week, Adele’s 21 regains the top for a 7th non-consecutive #1 run, the longest since Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream at the end of last year. Five sets return to the survey but none are brand new.
