NZSO confirms return to Christchurch
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has confirmed its return to Christchurch for the rest of the concert season, offering locals a discount on tickets.
The NZSO’s Christchurch season hung in doubt after the city’s February 22 earthquake caused serious damage to the Christchurch Town Hall, the orchestra’s local base.
Chief Executive Peter Walls says the NZSO can now announce it will perform all its remaining 2011 concerts at the CBS Canterbury Arena. The exception will be November’s Metropolis, which is now unable to be staged in the time available and is cancelled.
Mr Walls says he is pleased that Christchurch concert-goers can enjoy the full might of the NZSO in performance, despite the city’s recent challenges.
“It is always our pleasure to play in Christchurch and everyone at the NZSO is delighted we can honour our commitments in the city. We hope as many locals as possible will turn out to enjoy the concerts, and take advantage of the discounted tickets.”
Tickets will now be priced from $15 to $55, instead of the original $29 to $76.
The switch in venue will also mean a new start time of 6pm for the concerts, all of which maintain their originally scheduled dates apart from Odes to Joy which moves from 29 to 27 September.
NZSO subscribers and existing ticket-holders will be contacted to arrange their ticket transfers and priority seating.
They will also receive a free programme and a voucher for free CBS Canterbury Arena parking for each of their booked concerts. In addition, patrons who have already booked for the upcoming Romeo and Juliet concert on 23 June will receive a drinks voucher.
