Highlights for May 8 - May 21 2011

Stratos Television welcomes back one of its most highly anticipated shows - Eurovision Song Contest. Hosted in Dusseldorf, Germany the organisers have gone all out with everything from staging, lighting and costumes to make this year's competition fiercer than ever.

Award-winning journalist Dairne Shanahan has joined the Beatson Interview and uses her killer questions and wealth of experience to co-host the show. Dairne has worked with David Beatson previously in Eyewitness News and was involved in current affairs shows such as Close Up and Sunday. Dairne and David put the spotlight on local and international guests every Tuesday night.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Wednesday May 11, Friday May 13 and Sunday May 15 at 8pm on Stratos

Eurovision Song Contest is a massive song competition with more than 100 million viewers internationally and over 40 countries competing.
Stratos TV will be bringing the competition to New Zealanders all across the country on the same day it happens live in Germany. The massive three-day event kicks off with the first semi final on Wednesday followed by the second semi final on Friday leading into the grand final on Sunday night. In the run up to this year’s event Stratos TV will be replaying the 2010 final on Sunday, May 7 a week prior to the 2011 final.


BEATSON INTERVIEW

Tuesday May 17 at 7:30pm on Stratos

Beatson Interview's new co-host Dairne Shanahan interviews journalist and author Fatima Bhutto - grandaughter of Pakistan's former President and Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Her father Murtaza Bhutto was an elected member of parliament when he was killed by the police in 1996 in Karachi during the premiership of his sister, Benazir Bhutto. From one of the most powerful and controversial families in Pakistan, Fatima talks about her life now, her book and being the next generation of Bhutto family females.

AL JAZEERA WORLD - NEXT MUSIC STATION

Thursday's at 9pm on Stratos

New to Al Jazeera World comes a six part series starting in May exploring music through the Arab world. From the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf, the series explores the eclectic rhythms and sounds of the current music scene in a number of Arab countries, from Syria, Yemen, Tunisia, Bahrain and Kuwait. The series offers a fresh and vibrant portrait of a part of the world too long associated with negative stereotypes.
