A reality show that is real!
A reality show that is real!......that’s a novel concept.
Don’t get hung up on the name, The ITM Fishing Show is much more than a show about catching fish, it’s already a reality show with the suspense, humour and drama generated from encounters with fish, often in the most bizarre ways imaginable.
Such is the following of Matt Watson and his unique brand of fishing that he’s received requests from thousands of fans wanting to join him – so why not select a handful of fans and put them through some fishing challenges to see who gets to become Matt’s protégé? – this sounds more like the reality show’s we’re used to.
But don’t expect Matt and his team to follow the contrived American reality show
formula, it’s still very Kiwi and there is plenty of ‘make it up as you go along’. Watson Says… ‘we didn’t manufacture any scenarios, we simply picked eight people that we thought would make good television, and put them through fishing challenges. We figured the challenges would show us their skills, and bring out their personalities and perhaps some personality clashes, but no decisions were pre-determined, all eight were people we thought could win’.
The eight finalists are made up of three women and five blokes, ranging from 21 to 52 years old and from all over New Zealand. There are some ‘girly’ girls, and very ‘blokey’ blokes, ranging from a Calf Skinner to a Marketing Consultant.
The upcoming episodes, which will air as part of The ITM Fishing Show from May 14th, will feature all the drama, conflict, scandal and skulduggery we’ve become accustomed to seeing on most reality TV shows, but Watson’s ‘keeping it real’ with his trademark humour and down to earth approach.
Each week starting May 14th one contestant will be eliminated and they will be available for interviews either as pre records or live on the Monday morning.
