Early Bird Tickets On Sale for Auckland Art Fair

Early Bird Tickets On Sale for Auckland Art Fair Celebrating the Best in Australasian Art

Tickets are on sale, on line, now for the Auckland Art Fair with over 40 top Australasian galleries exhibiting for sale over 1,000 works by some of the biggest names in contemporary art in a varied and provocative show case at one venue, over four days from August 4-7.

A limited number of Early Bird and VIP Collectors’ Packages are available which will secure tickets to an exclusive preview and the glamorous Vernissage opening as well as the lecture by international guest, Knight Landesman, the publisher of Artforum, the Vogue or Rolling Stone for all things art.

His lecture, on Friday 5 August, which is likely to sell out fast, will discuss how the artist makes the art but it is synergistic relationships with disparate but interlinked communities that make the artist.

“My thesis is that all these communities are equally important and not a single one can be missing if the artist is to be successful: the gallerist shows and sells the work to the public; the curator exhibits; the critic is looking out for interesting work to write about which in turn sparks public interest and the collector goes to look at the work, likes it and ultimately buys it,” Mr Landesman said from his New York base.

This year’s biennial fair at the newly opened Viaduct Events Centre, promises to be the biggest ever with 10 Australian galleries from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, joining leading galleries from Gisborne, Dunedin, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland.

“We’re expecting to attract over 10,000 people over the fair from seasoned collectors to newcomers who want to see for themselves the original work of an artist they have heard about or want to get to know, have an opportunity to talk to experts from the galleries, even meet the artists and buy a work or just mix with people curious and excited about learning more about current art,” says Fair director, Jennifer Buckley.

Highlights of the programme include an exclusive preview for VIP ticket holders, the opening Vernissage gala, daily public forums, guided tours and interactive kids’ programme as well as bars and cafes.
