Mother's Day Extra Special For Mums In Hospital

Mother's Day Extra Special For Mums In Hospital

Mothers with newborn babies in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals this Mothers Day will receive a special gift from Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation to mark the occasion.

50 handmade baby quilts from the Foundation’s Volunteer Quilters are being given to mothers in Wellington Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital this Mothers Day to take home and keep.

“It is such a special time for new mothers, we are excited to be involved” says Trish Lee, Manager of the Foundation’s Hospital Volunteer Service. “Our Volunteers have been working on these quilts since January and their work is exquisite.”

Wellington and Kenepuru Hospital’s maternity units are expecting up to 15 new babies to be born this Mother’s Day and 30 or more babies will be in Wellington’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

More than 7,000 baby garments and quilts are made by the Wellington Hospital’s and Health Foundation Volunteer Service every year for use in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospital. For many families in the Neonatal Unit, these donated items are the only ones they will receive that are small enough for their premature baby.

The Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation has funded this project through donations from the public. If you would like to donate to the Hospital Volunteer Service or would like information on being a volunteer, please visit www.whhf.org.nz.

Public Display
The Mother’s Day Quilts will be on display for public viewing from 9am Tuesday 3rd – 5pm Thursday 5th May at Wellington Hospital main entrance atrium.
