Parents welcome Free E-Book being launched by Home and Family Counselling
A Free E-Book Say ‘No’ To Bottom Games which is being launched by on May 9 2011 as an initiative of the Counselling Awareness Week is generating a significant amount of interest in New Zealand.
“Every adult is responsible for the safety and well-being of the children in their care. Caregivers can be mothers, fathers, grandparents, and all members of extended family, neighbours and professional child care providers. As adults we have the responsibility to not only educate them about road, water and sun safety, we also have the responsibility to educate them about keeping safe from sexual abuse” says Anya Godwin, author of the E-Book and a children’s counsellor at Home and Family Counselling.
“By making this a free resource available to the community we are reinforcing Home and Family Counselling’s commitment to adopting an educative role in the counselling community”, says Mary Gray, executive director, Home and Family Counselling
“Five years back we launched the first Counselling Awareness Week which aims to promote and publicise an understanding about what counselling is and what it can achieve. The launch of this E-book extends our educative role. We realise the value in providing parents, educators and caregivers with a practical resource that will help them talk about and protect children from sexual abuse.”
John Angus, New Zealand Children’s
Commissioner says “I welcome this new resource for parents
who want to talk with their children about keeping safe from
abuse”
“We invite everyone concerned with children’s safety to sign up for this free E-Book” says Mary Gray, executive director Home and Family Counselling.
About the book: SAY “NO” TO BOTTOM-GAMES is a guide for Parents, Educators and Caregivers about how to talk about and protect children from sexual abuse.
Adults who are willing to tackle the topic of sexual abuse and want to learn how to discuss this with their children will find this book invaluable.
SAY ‘NO’ TO BOTTOM-GAMES is made up of two sections.
Section One explores simple ways that Parents, Educators and Caregivers can speak with their children about keeping safe from sexual abuse and gives ideas and strategies for how to do this.
Section Two is a collection of children’s stories put together as a resource for children as well as Parents, Educators and Caregivers. It offers age-appropriate stories, which are created to support the ideas suggested in Section One. The stories have simple drawings that can be easily downloaded and made up into colouring books for children.
Begin by introducing children to the ideas and concepts suggested in the parent’s guide Section One and help support your coaching by reading your children the stories in Section Two.
