New Zealand Record Price For A Diamond
Webb’s Set New Zealand Record Price For A Diamond At
$229,000
At the fine jewellery sale at Webb’s on Wednesday 20th April a rare 4.85ct solitaire diamond made a record price for a piece of jewellery at auction in NZ selling for $229,000* The previous record was also set by Webb’s for a pink diamond at $171,150.
Jewellery consultant & auctioneer Christopher Devereaux said that there had been considerable interest in the diamond. The competition got down to two determined bidders who finally battled it out in $5000 bids. Mr Devereaux said that interest in large stones of good quality was spurred by recent significant increases in the wholesale price of diamonds in the international marketplace, reflecting pressures on supply created by demand from the emerging and very active Indian & Chinese domestic markets.
