More high performance training for Paddon and Kennard
Fresh from their win in Portugal, rally ace Hayden Paddon and co-driver John Kennard head back to the Academy of Sport South this month for further training and testing as part of their MotorSport New Zealand President’s High Performance Scholarship.
“They have already benefited from the sport’s Elite Academy and the Pirelli Star Driver programme. Now they return to the sports scientists at the Academy of Sport South to develop their skills to the next level,” said Shayne Harris, president of MotorSport New Zealand and chairman of the MotorSport Scholarship Trust. MotorSport New Zealand and the Trust funds this and other development programmes for the sport’s competitors and continues to support Hayden and John in their quest to be top of the chosen sport.
The rallying duo will undergo two intensive days of testing and development of their physical fitness, visual acuity, mental preparation skills, and revisit important nutritional and dietary needs. Feedback from a survey completed by a range of people from crew members to sponsors, with whom they interact in their rallying career, will also provide a focus for future development.
“As part of their Scholarship, they will be able to return to the Dunedin-based Academy of Sport over the next 12 months for further assistance and advice,” Shayne said.
Race driver Richie Stanaway was awarded a
scholarship and is just starting into his F3 European
championship programme. Also a graduate of the NZ Elite
Academy, he is currently participating in the FIA’s Young
Drivers Excellence Academy, which follows similar lines to
the New Zealand one but also covers driving
skills.
