The Ashburton Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition in celebration of Wheels Week 2011. This unique exhibition has an interesting variety of artists and collectors coming together to showcase the fabulous invention of the wheel. The wheel is everywhere on all of our cars, bikes, trains, planes, skateboards, the list goes on. The oldest wheel found in archaeological excavations was discovered in what was Mesopotamia USA, and is believed to be over fifty-five hundred years old!
'Mustang Sally' includes works
from local artists, such as David Elliot, Ewan McDougall,
Iain Henderson and Robin Arnst, John Lobb an Elvis Presley
Collector, members of the community and even sport and
skateboard enthusiasts. With such a eclectic mix of work
available for viewing this show proving to have something
for everyone to enjoy.
Iain Henderson has run a
successful jewellery manufacturing business since the early
1980s. His jewellery designs have been purchased by clients
in New Zealand and overseas. His work has appeared on the
covers of magazines and he has received a number of awards
nationally and internationally.
"I am an independent
hand jeweller. Someone who designs and makes their jewellery
from start to finish, thus creating a one off individual art
piece." In so doing Iain uses stones and metals as the
materials with the true value of the piece being in the
artists
worth.
