Daring and Merrymaking Revelry Hits the Stage!
Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome… to the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival’s hottest new showcase, Le Comique! A risqué revue of the best variety acts from the Festival. Ooh ha ha!
Co-hosted by Nouvelle Zélande’s glam and quick-witted Justine Smith, and France’s premiere misogynist and lover Marcel Lucont, Le Comique promises an evening of extraordinary entertainment. Variety is the spice of life – and this offbeat array of performances is guaranteed to be hot!
Marcel Lucont was a hit with kiwi audiences in AotearoHA Comedy Carnival 2010, and is also a self-published, self-award winning author of several books.
"Wonderful French wit whose skills as a raconteur and bon vivant are almost as proficient as those he wields in the bedroom. Superb stuff. Magnifique." – Time Out, London
Le Comique also features British burlesque starlet Lili La Scala. A vintage glamour-puss, Lili is the epitome of pin-up girl chic with her flame-coloured locks and amazing costumes. This trained opera singer mixes burlesque, balloons and a beautiful voice for a unique performance.
“Lili la Scala is delightful, delicious and de-lovely as the songs she sings… a vintage doll with instant appeal” – Australian Stage, AUS
A darling of festivals world-wide and current comedy ‘It’ guy, The Boy With Tape His Face, draws on silent film, mime, magic, puppetry, and so much more. He conjures the heart-rending poignancy of Buster Keaton and mingles it with mischief and piercing wit that leave an audience enraptured.
“The Boy With Tape on His Face is utterly spectacular! Endlessly inventive, hysterically funny. Sublime physical lunacy – fight for a ticket.” – Tim Arthur, Time Out, UK
The great line-up continues with the internationally acclaimed Jarred Fell, master of trickery and illusion and wizard of comedy!
Briton Anil Desai will also hit the stage, arriving direct from Edinburgh to share his hilarious impressions and mimicry. He is renowned for his world-record-breaking 52 impressions in five minutes. Mikey and Muscles from burlesque troupe The Dust Palace will titillate and tantalise with their jaw-dropping feats of strength.
Nouvelle Zélande’s own Jamie Bowen will transform into the fantastical, musical Munfred Bernstein – and there are still more line-up announcements to be made! Who knew comedy could be so sensuelle?
Show may contain adult content, nudity, beards, men with hats, tassles, rhyming poetry and bubbles.
