The Wellington Raw Comedy Quest

The Wellington Raw Comedy Quest

The Raw Comedy Quest is the premier comedy competition for up and comers. It has been the launching pad for some of Wellington's most successful performers, including 2006 Billy T Award winner Cori Gonzalez Macuer and 2011 Billy T nominee Cameron Murray.

Eight performers compete in each heat for a place in the Wellington final on Thursday 28 April. The Wellington winner and runner up will be flown to Auckland to compete in the National Raw Comedy Quest Grand Final held at the Classic Comedy Bar on Sunday 15 May as part of the NZ International Comedy Festival.

The Grand Final winner receives $1500 in prize money plus the offer of professional work.

Each heat in Wellington will have three judges, who will be judging on originality, performance, stage presence and audience reaction. Wellington performers have gone on to win the Grand Final in 6 of the last 8 years, with four of them going on to become Billy T Award nominees.

If you are considering a career in stand up comedy or want to witness the next big thing in NZ comedy, this is the best place to start.

To watch, heats are at 8pm each Thursday in April at Fringe Bar on Cuba St, with the final on Thursday 28 April.

To enter, you need to be a NZ resident and have 7 minutes of original material, book in a place by emailing comedy@thewhat.net.nz.

To win, you need to be hilarious.
