Tikorangi School Tastes Womad
Tikorangi school
children got a taste of the WOMAD festivities with a special
visit last week from Sudanese percussion group “Rango”.
The visit was supported by Todd Energy who has been a major
partner of WOMAD since the first event in 2003.
“Taranaki is Todd Energy’s home and we are passionate about supporting our community. The WOMAD festival contributes to Taranaki being a great place to live, work and play” said Cressida Gates, Todd Energy’s Communications manager, “and we are delighted to be able to support participation in the festivities at a grassroots level in the community.”
The Cario-based group of master musicians who were in New Zealand to perform at WOMAD mesmerised a group of year 5 and 6 pupils from Tikorangi school with their high-energy, percussion-driven music, teaching the children the mysterious Mangor dance, and showing the children how to play their very own Rango shaker.
