Prime Minister to take part in Fill the Basin

Prime Minister John Key will face an over from Shane Warne at Sunday’s Fill the Basin for Christchurch charity Twenty20 match.

The Prime Minister will face Shane in a special over during the break - joining cricketing legends, All Blacks and international movie stars in the event.

“I am delighted that John Key is taking part. This is becoming a very special event and the response from the players, celebrity match officials and the public has been tremendous,” said match organiser Stephen Fleming.

“Shane tells me he won’t be taking it easy on the Prime Minister and the players will be giving him a few tips to help him with his game.”

“It will be great day’s entertainment and we would like the crowd to come dressed in red and black to really show their support for Canterbury.”

The Prime Minister will join Russell Crowe (Canterbury Invitation XI coach), James Nesbitt (Wellington Legends XI coach), Sir Ian McKellen (match referee), Richie McCaw, Conrad Smith, Mark Hadlow and Martin Freeman (umpires) in supporting the match.

The Trade Me Auction for the 12th man positions in each team and an over with Shane Warne closes tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Each 12th man will mix with the players and will receive a named uniform and a bat signed by their team mates and the other lucky trade me auction winner will face six deliveries by Shane Warne in the break between innings.

“These auctions are for the experience of a lifetime,” he said.
