Tai Tokerau Tall Ship Challenge - powered by Northpower and Top Energy
The two Northland Lines Companies, Northpower and Top Energy will again be sponsoring the 2011 Tai Tokerau Tall Ship’s Challenge, being held in May this year.
Northpower will be sponsoring two Whangarei schools and one school from Kaipara while Top Energy will be sponsoring two schools from the Far North District, with two places being allocated to each school.
Last year’s trophy was won by the team from Bream Bay College who fielded a very strong team. This year, the theme will be “Safety at Sea” with school candidates being asked to submit an item (essay, poem or picture) demonstrating their understanding the importance of safety in the maritime environment.
“Northpower knows the importance of safety when working with live electricity and has rigorous safety precautions in place to ensure the safety of its staff and that of the public. We fully support this year’s safety theme encouraging youngsters to take an active role ensuring their own safety and that of others while at sea. We wish all schools competing for a place on the historic R. Tucker Thompson all the best.” commented Darren Mason, Fibre and Marketing Manager from Northpower.
The trip departs from Marsden Cove on Friday 13th May and returns to Opua on Thursday 19th May and registration forms can be found on the R. Tucker Thompson’s website http://www.tucker.co.nz/TaiTokerauChallenge.htm or by calling 0800 TUCKER. Schools are strongly recommended to get their applications early.
