Preparation for the Rugby World Cup is winding up in the Bay of Plenty according to BOP Rugby Union Operations Manager Mike Rogers.

“This game is the first of many warm-up games and events that will be happening in the Bay in the lead up to the Rugby World Cup.”

The Fiji team will be based in Tauranga from 5 to 9 September and again from the 26 September to 1 October. The team will use the Tauranga Domain as their training base.
.
Mr Rogers said Tauranga City Council had undertaken some extra preparation at Blake Park to make sure the turf was of world class standard for the Fijians.

“We are now 190 days out from the Rugby World Cup and the pre-season games are a great opportunity for international teams to get some practice in New Zealand.”

As well as the Fijian team, Ireland, Samoa, Russia and Namibia will also be staying in the Bay of Plenty.

The first Rugby World Cup game in the Bay of Plenty will be 10 September at the Rotorua International Stadium where Fiji takes on Namibia.
