More Sign On For Legends Of League Charity Match
Auckland, New Zealand, March 3, 2011 – Former Australian football star Mark Bosnich is among the latest sporting names who have signed on to play in the Legends of League Charity Match at Mount Smart Stadium next Thursday (March 10) to raise funds for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
Goalkeeper Bosnich, who played for Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea during his professional career in the English premier league, has been confirmed in an Australian legends squad which also includes rugby league stars of yesteryear Hazem el Masri, Ben Elias, Paul Sironen and John Hopoate. Also set to travel to Auckland for the game is former Vodafone Warrior David Myles.
The New Zealand squad comprises a host of Kiwi legends including Ruben Wiki, Stacey Jones, Gary Freeman, Kurt Sorensen, Hugh McGahan, Richie Barnett, Logan Swann, Joe Vagana and many more as well as Tawera Nikau, one of the match organisers, who will play despite having an artificial leg.
One place is being left open in each squad for the highest bidders in an online auction on www.tradme.co.nz (see details further down).
Apart from Nikau, the other former players helping to bring the squads together are Freeman, former Vodafone Warriors captain Monty Betham and Nigel Vagana while the New Zealand Rugby League, the League 4 Life Foundation, Vodafone and Mount Smart Stadium are lending their support.
