If you are enticed by
the genuine taste of ethnic food or if you are looking for a
free fun filled family event to attend, then experience
Harmonise a celebration of Race Relations Day at the
Pacifica Arts Centre at Corban Estate Art Centre on the 26th
of March from 2pm until 6pm.
Harmonise will promote the diverse richness of ethnic communities and cultures out West in an array of performances and displays in a village market atmosphere. Performances will travel the globe from the stirring sounds of Kapa Haka to the rhythmic steel drums of the Caribbean. There will be ethnic food stalls, ‘grass roots’ micro-enterprise and information services relevant to ethnic and migrant communities. Free children activities are provided by Sports Waitakere plus the familiar favourites like face painting and a bouncy castle.
Harmonise is hosted by the Waitakere Ethnic Board (WEB) to encourage the integration of ethnic communities through events like the Race Relations Day, a day also known as the 2011 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. As in the word “Harmonise”, the presenting ethnic communities will be able to nurture friendship and peace through exchanges of ideas, knowledge’s and customs, while celebrating the uniqueness of their own cultures.
Last year WEB hosted the Race Relations festival to thank and award key people and organisations for their support of Waitakeres’ diverse ethnic and migrant communities. This year WEB will showcase the wide and diverse range of ethnic community organisations in the region while enabling them to raise awareness through micro-enterprises, food stalls and membership.
In case of inclement weather, the alternative location for the event will be at the Kelston Community Centre, 135 Awaroa Rd, Sunnyvale, Waitakere. Information about any changes of venue will be posted on Waitakere Ethnic Board’s website, www.waitakereethnicboard.org.nz, and distributed to media and Auckland Council contacts.
People can contact the Waitakere Ethnic Board for any further information on the event or to make stall bookings for their ethnic organisation. Contact Julieth at 09 836 0169 or contact[at]waitakereethnicboard.org.nz
Waitakere Ethnic Board (WEB) works to support ethnic minorities in the Waitakere region through advocacy and collaboration. In partnership with the Auckland Council (formerly Waitakere City Council) the board aims to improve integration of urban migrant and refugee people and promote social well-being by creative social and networking events. WEB is supported by Community Waitakere in the celebration of Harmonise.
