Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn rise up for Zoo Music

The Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn rise up for Zoo Music finale

The Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn are teaming up for a not-to-be-missed double billing at Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music this Friday, 4 March from 6pm – the last concert for this summer’s series.

Fresh from winning Best Group at the 2010 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, The Phoenix Foundation are fast earning a reputation as one of the country’s most innovative and respected acts.

As if that wasn’t enough, they will be sharing a bill with none other than Liam Finn. Born into New Zealand music royalty, the hugely talented Finn has carved out a name for himself both on the national and international stage.

The Thomas Oliver Band will kick-off the three-hour finale with their distinctive blues, rock, country and roots sound.

Revenue from the concert will go a long way in assisting the Zoo to help wildlife, says Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken.

“As part of our work with New Zealand-native species here at the Zoo, we use our facilities and staff expertise to breed North Island kaka.

“Once reared, we work with other conservation organisations to release these endangered birds back into wild sites that have had predators removed, such as Pukaha Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa and Karori Wildlife Sanctuary (Zealandia) in Wellington.

“These concerts directly help to support this type of work,” says Mr Wilcken.

A great day and night out – a Zoo Music ticket is also entry to the Zoo on concert day, so music lovers can come early and re-connect with the Zoo at their leisure.

Drummer for the Phoenix Foundation, Richard Singleton is encouraging Aucklanders to come along.

“We played at the Zoo in 2008. It was a beautiful warm evening and I remember the sound being really good and the weather was divine,” he says.

Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music 2011 is supported by The Radio Network, Juice TV, iSite Media, Brancott Estate, DB Breweries and The Quadrant Hotel Auckland. Tickets are available from Ticketek. Visit www.aucklandzoo.co.nz for full details.
