MUSTO Wellington Match Race Cup
Eastbourne junior sailor Tim Coltman made a surprise comeback to finish second in the MUSTO Wellington Match Race Cup at
Oriental Bay on Sunday 27 February. The Wellington under-21 crew finished preliminary “round-robin” racing in fourth
place. Revelling in Sunday’s challenging conditions they beat world number twelve Reuben Corbett two-nil in the
semi-finals, snatching second place. The up-and-coming Wellington crew fought hard in the finals but was beaten
three-nil by Auckland’s William Tiller and his Full Metal Jacket crew.
Stephanie Hazard (representing Auckland’s Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron) won the women’s section. Hazard beat
Samantha Osborne (RNZYS) and her crew three-nil in the final.
William Tiller’s Full Metal Jacket team won an entry to the “Match Race Germany” regatta, part of the 2011 World Match
Racing Tour.
The women’s section of this regatta counts toward places in the NZL sailing teams Olympic Squad, and Hazard’s assertive
performances in the semi-finals and finals are sure to impress the selectors.
