Another Winner for Darci Brahma
The New Zealand Bloodstock Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) at Riccarton this afternoon has seen the promising filly Darci
Coup become the second winner for her first season sire Darci Brahma.
Trained by Michael Pitman and ridden by Lisa Allpress, Darci Coup (Darci Brahma x Nimble Feet) was too strong in the
Riccarton straight, running away in the final 150 metres to win by three-quarters of a length from a good field of
two-year-olds.
It was the filly's second race day appearance after she ran a good third to Endless Gossip at her debut earlier this
month. Leading the pack from end to end in today's race, she will take a lot from the run and there looks to be plenty
of improvement in the filly as she was a touch green on the track.
Owner Ray Coupland quinellaed the race with Darci Coup and his Rock of Gibraltar gelding Coup Rocky Road (ex Little
Tempest) - co-owned with Mrs J Walls - who ran into second place.
With a share in the stallion as well, prominent South Island owner Ray Coupland was pleased with the result.
"She has a great temperament this filly and I also own a share in the sire so it's a good result. We have a Darci Brahma
at home even better than this one so he's no doubt got some good winners to come."
Darci Coup is one of only a handful of Darci Brahma's progeny to hit the track this season. Darci Brahma has already
tasted winning success as a sire through his talented son Super Easy who won on debut and is also Group 3 placed.
Darci Brahma's progeny were well received at the Karaka Sales this year with 31 yearlings selling over the three sale
sessions for an average of over $90,000. His top price lot came at Lot 438, the filly from Miss Distinction, the dam of
the Group 1 winner Gee I Jane and Miss Jessie Jay offered by Hallmark Stud, which was knocked down for $625,000 to the
bid of Connolly Bloodstock.
