Little Sparks

Is your 4 year old a budding artist? Come along to
a Little Sparks session, a club for creatively-minded
preschoolers. Inspired by an exhibition or object at The
Dowse, children get to make something in The Dowse creative
workshop. Little Sparks meet once a month on a Tuesday from
1-2pm.
Late Lounge with Matiu "The Hook" Te Huki Thurs 3 March | 7-9pm | KOHA Our monthly Late Lounge sessions are popular with all ages. Join us on the first Thursday of every month for chilled out tunes in a relaxed setting. All galleries, cash bar, shop and cafe open until 9pm. Known for his amazing vocal power with Fat Freddys Drop, Rhombus and Tiki Taane, Matiu is at The Dowse with his own soulful roots music. He was the founding member of the popular roots band Homefire Burning and is currently still and member of basscamp and his current band My Golden Soul. Who Am I? Big Faces, Big Names: Portraits From The Dowse opens this Saturday 19 February - 15 May 2011 Take a close look at portraits from The Dowse collection, including renowned New Zealand artists Rita Angus, Frances Hodgkins and Toss Woollaston. There are also contemporary works by Michael Smither and Paul Rayner's delightful ceramics bust of Carmen, Ken and Ken and Split Enz. This family show examines elements of portraiture, like pose, gaze, style and setting. Featuring hands-on activities, children will see how portraits can convey the personality of their subjects.
