Ussher Takes 2011 Speight’s Coast To Coast Title
Ussher has taken out the top spot for a fourth time in the Speight’s Coast to Coast ‘Longest Day’ one-day competition with a time of 10hr: 41min: 12sec.
Ussher finished with a convincing lead over Dougal Allan who came in second with a time of 10hr: 55min: 59sec.
Glen Currie, a physical education teacher from Methven, crossed the finish line at Sumner Beach in third place.
Ussher, who took a break from competing in the past two Speight’s Coast to Coast races says it was good to be back. “The build-up was pretty relaxed so I had to have a measured race. I was hoping to finish strong.”
Woman’s winner Sophie Hart from Nelson, won the Speight’s Coast to Coast female ‘Longest Day’ crossed the finish line at Sumner with a time of 12hr: 10min: 31sec. Hart placed third in last year’s Speight’s Coast to Coast.
In second place was last year’s winner, Elina Ussher and Emily Miazga took out third place.*
One-day competitors set off from Kumara Beach on the West Coast at 6am. Over the entire day they covered 254kms including 140kms of cycling, 36kms of mountain running and 67kms kayaking.
Speight’s Coast to Coast 2011 Two-Day Competition
James Coubrough from Lower Hutt took out the first place with a time of 11hr: 25min: 02sec in the Speight’s Coast to Coast 2011 Two-Day Open Men’s event. He was followed by Dan Moore in second place with a time of 11hr: 51min: 56sec. Paul Avery took out third place with a time of 12hr: 30min: 03secs.
The women’s Two-Day Race was taken out by Hayley Shearer. She finished with a time of 13hr: 53min: 13sec. Olivia Faull (14hr: 00min: 24sec) and Louise Hales (14hr: 21min: 37sec) came in second and third place respectively.
