New Manager For White Ferns

New Manager For White Ferns

For immediate release

Sport Psychology consultant Christina Ryan is at the top of her game. The newly appointed manager of New Zealand Woman’s Cricket team, the White Ferns, is confident the team will have the edge they need to succeed in the up-and-coming Rose Bowl series against Australia in February.

“I’ve been on a short tour with the team already, and I’m confident they have the attitude they need to give the Australians a run for their money during the Rose Bowl series next month,” she says.

Christina is no stranger to the concept of high performance sport, including the stress and confidence issues that can go hand-in-hand with playing sport at a national and international level. Currently teaching the sports psychology component of CPIT’s Bachelor of Applied Science (Health & Wellness and Sports Science specialisation), Christina has more than 12 years’ experience working within a variety of New Zealand’s elite sport environments as a sport psychology consultant, however, this is her first time working as a team manager.

“I’m really excited about my new role. I hope to encourage the team and ensure that everything they need is organised at the backend, so they can concentrate on enhancing their ‘on-field’ cricket performance,” she says.

At the time of her appointment in December last year, White Ferns coach Gary Stead said Christina would add to the team dynamic.

“Christina has the skills to enhance the culture within the White Ferns,” he said. “We’ve worked with her in the past in a mental skills capacity and we know she will bring talents that will continually push us towards being a world-class side.”

The new role will also enable Christina to bring real-world case studies back to the lecture theatre to enhance the learning experience of her students – a factor that could not have been achieved without the help of CPIT and the encouragement of her colleagues.

“This couldn’t have happened without CPIT’s support. The institute has gone out of its way to give me the opportunity to pursue the role - I can’t thank them enough. I’m just really appreciative of everyone’s support in helping to make this happen.”

The Rose Bowl series at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln University, Christchurch, begins at 10.30am on Thursday, February 24. For more information see www.whiteferns.co.nz
