Get the Heart Pumping at Botany Town Centre’s Summer Fun Run & Walk

Botany Town Centre is encouraging locals to raise their heart rates by stepping into their running shoes for the annual Summer Fun Run & Walk on Sunday 13 February. People of all ages and fitness abilities are invited to enter the event, which aims to help participants have fun while supporting a worthy cause and getting into the running for some fabulous prizes.

The Summer Fun Run & Walk sees top competitors rewarded for their fast-paced efforts, but the real winner on the day is the Heart Foundation, which will receive $1 from each participant’s entry fee. The non-arduous walk and run is staged over two lengths, a 5km and 10km walk or run. Participants can compete for first place or take their time and enjoy the stroll.

Botany Town Centre Senior Marketing Manager Desiree Clark says, “The Summer Fun Run & Walk has become an event the local community looks forward to each year. We are pleased to be able to support the Heart Foundation, as we feel this is a worthy cause and aligns perfectly with the message of keeping fit, active and healthy.”

The Heart Foundation will be holding its Annual Appeal collection day on Friday 11 February, with volunteers visiting Botany Town Centre to collect donations.

“To help keep our families and communities together longer, it’s more vital than ever that New Zealanders get behind our Annual Appeal,” says Heart Foundation Medical Director Norman Sharpe.

“Heart disease is the single biggest cause of death in New Zealand and many of these deaths are premature and preventable, so the community’s support will go a long way in helping to reduce the death rate,” Professor Sharpe adds.

While top competitors will be rewarded with a trophy for their efforts in the 10km and 5km walk and run, all participants will have plenty of chances to win spot prizes, including a 42” Panasonic high definition plasma TV, a Specsavers voucher valued at $200, one of four Nike+ packages valued at $290 and one of four Hoyts movie pass packs containing a book of 10 passes.

The event begins at 9am and will start and finish at Botany Town Centre’s Town Square. Entry is $25 for those who wish to compete in the 5km run or walk and $30 for the 10km run or walk. The route offers families a great chance to familiarize themselves with the area, the surrounding roads and the many access points into the centre.
