There was plenty of noise coming from Haunui Farm and Westbury Stud at the Karaka sales complex yesterday as Booming exploded his way to his second consecutive Group 1 win in the $200,000 Harcourts Thorndon Mile (1600m).

In a strong line up for the race, there looked to be many chances in the straight with several of the runners going wide on the turn. But jockey Masa Tanaka had other ideas and kept his mount Booming (Don Eduardo x Beautiful Sea) right on the aluminium, producing another big turn of foot to run down Dasoudi (Elusive City) to win the feature by half-a-length.

Coming back in distance from his Group 1 win in the Zabeel Classic over 2000 metres, the son of Don Eduardo showed that he has to be considered as one of the leading performers in New Zealand at present. The win has seen trainer Jeff Lynds notch up his fifth Group 1 win of the season with Wall Street winning the Windsor Park Plate, the Spring Classic and the Emirates Stakes in Melbourne.

Jeff Lynds was thrilled with the horse's performance, giving him his second consecutive win in the Thorndon Mile with Wall Street winning the Group 1 last year.

"We are very pleased with the win, he really produced a strong effort in the race and he is starting to live up to his potential.

"We have a couple of options open to us, he holds a nomination for the Australian Cup, and the BMW Stakes is also a race that we could look at as well."

Jeff has had a high opinion of the horse for some time.

"I knew early on that this horse had some serious potential and could be something special, it has taken some time for him to get to this level, but he has come on leaps and bounds from last season, and it's great to see him grow into such a wonderful horse."

The race was a big thrill for Westbury Stud as they will be offering a half-sister to Booming by Postponed in the Select Sale at Lot 710.

The race also saw Haunui Farm's sires Don Eduardo and Elusive City quinella the Group 1 event. The stud also had a hand with the third placed Eileen Dubh, as Haunui Farm now prepares and sells yearlings on behalf of the Moore families Soliloquy Lodge, the breeders of the Group 1 winning mare.

Don Eduardo has a small draft of 13 horses in the National Yearling Sales Series, and Haunui Farm's Stud Manager Mark Chitty has been pleased with the amount of interest in the sire's yearlings.

"He had a smaller crop in 2009 but he has left some smart yearlings and we are expecting them to sell well over the next week."

Booming was bred by Fayette Park Stud and was bought by Mr D R Frampton for $50,000 from Seaton Park in the 2006 Karaka Select Sale. Owned by D R Frampton & G K V Holdings Ltd, the son of Don Eduardo has raced 23 times for eight wins and seven placings and has earned connections over half a million dollars in stakes.
