New Orleans Jazz Band to Tour Australia & NZ
Jazz lovers will have the chance to experience some of the world’s best music live from the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans. New Orleans local band Rebirth Brass Band is touring Australia and New Zealand in March for the first time.
The band formed 25 years ago has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. Rebirth’s signature music combines the tradition of New Orleans jazz while incorporating modern funk into their show.
Tour manager Dave Humphreys is excited to bring some of the world’s best musical talent to Australia. “New Orleans Live will be the opportunity that lovers of jazz have craved to reunite with the real thing,” Mr Humphreys said. “Rebirth are the champions of brass and their music has become the soundtrack to the city of New Orleans.
They are simply a New Orleans institution. “Their music has won over generations of music lovers. The audience will be in for a real treat and a totally unique musical experience,” he said. The tour is supporting the Roots of Music, a New Orleans charity founded by Rebirth drummer Derrick Tabb.
The Roots of Music provides free mentorship and music tuition for New Orleans youth following the cancellation of school music programmes since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Rebirth Brass Band is the first band to tour under the newly formed New Orleans Live series and presented with the Ovation Channel.
Rebirth Brass Band features on the soundtrack to HBO’s hit series Treme, which was last week nominated for the 2011 GRAMMYS.
