NZ’s finest artists donate artworks on the mind for Mental Health auction

A selection of artworks from some of New Zealand’s most sought after artists, exploring a theme of the Rooms Inside My Head, will go up for auction next month at Art + Object auction house, with proceeds going to the Mental Health Foundation.

A total of 25 stunning artworks have been donated to the event for auction, including an early watercolour of Moutere Hills c1940s by Toss Woollaston, a c1970s sculpture by Don Driver, and works by Seraphine Pick, Richard Killeen, Paul Dibble, Ronnie van Hout.

Mental Health Foundation Chief Executive, Judi Clements said the title of the exhibition refers to the different perceptions and experiences people can have through life.

“Through their work the artists are bringing alive an inner world that can bring us such turmoil but also much joy,” Ms Clements said. “This is very relevant for the Mental Health Foundation, as artistic expression is a powerful media and can communicate in a unique way and influence our mental health and wellbeing”.
One in five New Zealanders will experience a mental health problem in any given year, and the Mental Health Foundation provides invaluable support to people, their families and whanau, friends, colleagues and employers.

In addition to the 25 pieces of unique artwork up for grabs, acclaimed Kiwi musician Lisa Crawley will also perform at the event.

“We have been humbled by the amazing generosity of the artists and their gallerists, auction house Art + Object, musician Lisa Crawley, Dallows restaurant at Sale St, and Tiki wines.” Says Ms Clements

The Rooms Inside My Head takes place at Art + Object in
Abbey Rd, Auckland on Thursday 10th February, 7pm. Tickets are $75 with 70 per cent of the proceeds going to the Mental Health Foundation’s work to help improve the mental wellbeing of New Zealanders so that they can become flourishing individuals.
