A little naughty and a whole lot of fun for festival goers
One of America’s most versatile and prolific creative artists is coming to Christchurch this month.
Seattle-based Kevin Joyce has signed on to MC the new Buskers Burlesque show at Pacific Blue Buskers Club in Cathedral Square, featuring the saucy and beguiling Madamoiselle Lili La Scala.
The show adds a new late night venue to the popular World Buskers Festival and is set to introduce adult audiences to the world of burlesque.
“It’s a real coup to get someone of Kevin Joyce’s calibre to MC our new Burlesque Buskers show,” says World Buskers Festival artistic director Jodi Wright. “He’s really been at the forefront of theatre in the Pacific Northwest for years now and he’s a brilliant all-round entertainer. He’s going to bring so much energy and fun to the stage.”
For the past decade Joyce has been a principal performer and director of Teatro Zinzanni, the circus/dinner theatre phenomenon in San Francisco and Seattle.
He has directed and shared the stage with such luminaries as Joan Baez and performed alongside many of the world’s finest circus, vaudeville and variety performers.
“With Kevin Joyce MCing and Lili La Scala doing her own sultry moves, seats at the Buskers Burlesque Show are going to be a hot, hot commodity,” Wright predicts.
The World Buskers Festival is on in Christchurch from January 20 to 30, 2011. Details of the festival programme are at www.worldbuskersfestival.com.
