Artist’s wine reaches fruition
Wellington artist Richard Thurston has had the pleasure of witnessing two of his paintings being transformed into unique wine labels for 12,000 limited edition wine bottles named aptly as the Richard Thurston wine collection.
The creative project has been commissioned by leading online wine retailer Winesale.co.nz which selected Richard at this year’s New Zealand Art Show for his piece entitled Fulfilment. He was also commissioned to produce a second artwork entitled Union that is being loaned out to the New Zealand Arts Trust to be exhibited in art galleries, hospitals and schools around the country.
Richard says: “Being chosen by Winesale.co.nz judges has been a real honour for me personally and a highlight of my career.
“I’m thrilled my work is included on the wine labels and is representing such a quality wine. This prize is a fantastic vehicle for artists who want to expose their work to a wider New Zealand audience.”
The limited edition Richard Thurston wine collection includes 500 cases of Sauvignon Blanc and 500 cases of Pinot Noir, which will be available to purchase exclusively only on Winesale’s website www.Winesale.co.nz and feature in the acclaimed Wellington Hippopotamus Restaurant’s wine list. The wine collections’ individual sales prices range from $17.99 for the Sauvignon Blanc to $19.99 for the Pinot Noir variety.
Winesale.co.nz is also donating $1 to Richard and The New Zealand Arts Show for every specially-labelled wine bottle sold over the coming holidays.
Michael Mebus, General Manager of Winesale.co.nz, explains that: “to create beautiful wine, you must take your time and put as much of your love into it as you would any art work. I have really enjoyed being able to witness this project from start to finish. Winesale.co.nz will continue to support the New Zealand Art Show by exposing our chosen artist to the masses so New Zealand artists can continue to pursue their talent.”
Winesale.co.nz has also confirmed that the company will sponsor the New Zealand Art Show, Winesale.co.nz Commission Award next year.
