GREY POWER PRESS RELEASE
‘’ Think Young & Do Something Positive Daily’;
The avoidance of the Term “old’’ was the main theme of the address given Bill Potter of
Auckland to the Christmas function of Wanganui Grey Power on Monday.
The well known Trainer and Motivator, author and coach was in full flight when he spoke
To the 160 people in the audience he told them them that “you are only as old as you feel
And if you think 10 years younger then the chance are that you will feel 10 years younger”
He told the Grey Power members that “ age was a state of mind’ and that if an effort was made to
“do something positive every day” that will keep people, “ young in mind and body” !!
He asked the audience to indicate the “youngness” by age groupings and the spread was across
The range with with Mr Hector Cox aged 97 being the senior person “youngest in heart’ present.
Potter then asked the audience to indicate who among the gathering had access to a computer
And the response was a staggering 75 % raised their hands to confirm they had !
That result also surprised the Grey Power Committee as well as in earlier indications the result
Had been shown around the 50 % mark therefore the increase was substantial !
Mr Potter said that result was pleasing as it indicated that “ Wanganui”s seniors were embracing
the new technology which was appropriate in view of the fact that Wanganui would be one of the
earliest beneficiaries of the new faster broadband network capabilities “ !
He advised that the local trainers of “Senior Net” brace themselves “ for a large influx of seniors
In their classes” if the numbers indicated at the Grey Power meeting were an indication of
Of what was happening in the Wanganui City
Bill Potter’s speech held the meetings attention for just over an hour and his use of humour
Was a bonus and helped make several salient points in his address.
Local Wanganui President Tony Grant-Fargie acknowledged the presence in the audience
Of invited guests who were the recently retired Zone 4 Grey Power Director Roger Booth
from Paraparaumu who is now the Deputy Mayor of the Kapiti District Council
and Lew Rohloff from Horowhenua Grey Power, Who is the National Grey Power spokeperson
on Superannuation.
