Luke Wright to miss another week of Twenty20 cricket
Hell Wellington Firebirds overseas signing Luke Wright will be out of action for the next week of HRV Cup Twenty20 cricket due to complications following a recent infected leg.
Wright was admitted to Wellington hospital on Saturday 11 December and underwent a minor procedure to remove an abscess. The operation was successful and Wright was discharged the same day and is now recovering at his Wellington residence.
Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Gavin Larsen says this setback is very disappointing for both Wright and the Firebirds:
“Losing Luke for the next week is of course tremendously disappointing but it’s crucial that he is given as much time as is necessary to recover 100 percent from this unfortunate leg infection.”
Hell Wellington Firebirds team Doctor Ian Murphy says that whilst the procedure Wright underwent was not a major one, he needs to be given sufficient time to recover from what was a serious leg infection:
“We are monitoring Luke’s recovery on a daily basis and we now hope that he makes a speedy recovery and is back on the park for the Firebirds. That won’t happen though until I am convinced that he has recovered fully from this untimely leg infection.”
Wright is disappointed to miss more cricket with the Hell Firebirds.
“It’s really frustrating to be in this situation and I’ll be watching and supporting the Firebirds closely,” Wright says. “I’d love to be out there on the park with them and as soon as I’ve recovered I’ll be available for selection and will hopefully play a big part towards the end of the competition.”
