Big Day Out New Zealand Side Shows Announced
With Support from
Knives at Noon
In addition to their forthcoming appearance at the Big Day Out in Auckland, Birds of Tokyo this week announce ‘The Big Night In’, a couple of special side shows for fans in New Zealand.
Presented by Groove Guide and The Rock, Birds of Tokyo will head to Bodega in Wellington on Wednesday January 19, followed by a show at the Kings Arms Tavern in Auckland on Thursday January 20.
Tickets will go on sale from 9am Thursday December 16 and are available from www.ticketmaster.co.nz
With an ARIA Award winning, self-titled album that has hit platinum sales in Australia and an epic single Plans that has now sold over 100,000 copies, Birds of Tokyo are preparing to tear the stage apart with their highly acclaimed live show.
At the 2010 ARIA Awards, Birds of Tokyo not only received 6 nominations, but walked away with their first ever ARIA for Best Rock Album. They also delivered one of THE performances of the night; propelling “Plans” higher up the iTunes chart than any other performance on that unforgettable TV show. That single is out now via an exclusive iTunes digital bundle, which includes previously unreleased acoustic recordings of The Saddest Thing I Know and Wild At Heart.
The band’s new single, Plans has been added to The Rock, ZM and The Edge and is on a high rotation among these three major networks. Check out the video for the single below.

Supporting Birds of Tokyo will be Knives At Noon, the hottest new rock band to emerge from NZ in 2010. After a plethora of coveted supports including Smashing Pumpkins and Vampire Weekend the band is on everyone’s radar as one’s to watch. Currently working on their debut album in hometown Dunedin, Knives At Noon have been steadily rising in the kiwi music scene since their signing to independent record label Liberation Music last July.
The release of the Glitter Guts EP in September 2010 harboured hit single Violins and Violence. The outstanding video for the single earned them a feature spot on C4’s ‘Decent Exposure’ campaign whilst the track is also used in Telecom’s current Android TV commercial.
Glitter Guts EP received 4 and 5 star reviews nationwide in print media and served as a perfect introduction for the band to the NZ market. Knives At Noon will also appear at Big Day Out in 2011, the first of many high profile gigs for Knives At Noon next year.
