RDU Presents Best Demo Competition: Ed Muzik

“A Song Falls in the Woods”

Ed Muzik fought off a fair swag of top notch, local producers from a variety of genres to come out on top in this year’s Best Demo competition. His unique mash up of electro pop, synthy influenced 80’s style dance music caught the eye of our judge and New Zealand’s own musician producer legend: Recloose. Who remarked this year’s entrants were an eclectic mix, all which were of a high standard.

Now Ed Muzik will head up to Auckland and join Recloose in the Red Bull Studios, where they’ll lay they the winning track ‘A Song Falls in the Woods’ with Recloose adding his expertise to produce and mix the track ready for play on RDU 98.5FM. Ed’s track will then be introduced to all the Programme Directors of the Student Radio Network (bNet) and RDU & Red Bull will run a web story and profile on the winner at www.rdu.org.nz & www.redbullstudio.co.nz. Plus Ed will receive a tray of Red Bull to keep his wings firmly on.

Ed Muzik started off in Dunedin post-ironic, post-noise, post-music collective The Brockville Country Club, but when that came apart due to 'creative differences', he set up in his bedroom, producing beats and updating his myspace page. Soon after, he moved to Christchurch, and the next thing you know, he was opening for Charlie Ash on a winter's Wednesday at the legendary Wunderbar.

After playing on his own for a couple of years, from Dunedin to Auckland, as well as festivals such as Southern Amp, Chartfest and the Canaan Downs Festival, Ed decided to rope in some players to play his songs, and take everything to the 'next level'. Enter, the Burning Sensations.

The Burning Sensations have featured many of Christchurch’s best musicians, but the current line-up includes the Natch on drums, Easy Peasy on bass and Browntown Brown on iPhone / Korg / fart noises. Captain Safety provides tuneful lady vocals to contrast with Ed’s droll ramblings.

This line up are as tight as a proverbial’s proverbial, and have played around Churchtown with the likes of The Ruby Suns, Minuit, Coco Solid, Rare Shot Blue, Pikachunes, and, the Potbellez.

So ends another year, another competition, exposing yet another fantastic talent from Christchurch, New Zealand. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of Red Bull Studios, Recloose, Willy Privett and Ghost at RDU and all the local producers brave enough to get their work out there and noticed. Keep making your noise, we always love hearing what’s new and constantly strive to push it to the nation and further abroad!
