Celebrities for Starship
Auckland icon Giapo, the little Italian gelato shop on Queen St with the big heart is doing it again for the kids at Starship Children's Hospital.
Last Christmas Gianpaolo Grazioli and the team at Giapo inspired customers to donate gifts to give to children who were spending Christmas in hospital, this year; they're taking a different approach; and still helping the children.
With nearly 150,000 children going through Starship Children's Hospital each year, Gianpaolo Grazioli thought they was something else Giapo could do this year to help out. He approached the Foundation and asked what was on their wish list; and one item stood out, Mass Flow Respiratory Sensors.
The Mass Flow Respiratory Sensor is a critical piece of equipment that is used in lung function testing. This kind of testing is used to diagnose and monitor children with severe and sometimes life threatening respiratory or lung disease. Over one thousand of these tests are undertaken each year at Starship on children from all over New Zealand who have conditions such as severe asthma, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy.
Each machine costs $4000, and Giapo have set about to raise money to enable the Hospital to have at least one more machine on board.
Saturday 18 December is the Giapo For Starship day. With TV and Radio personalities coming on board to serve gelato from 12 til 2pm; with 100% of the revenue coming from sales during this time going toward a purchasing Mass Flow respiratory Sensor .
So far Colin Mathura Jeffree, Jaquie Brown, John Palino, Kimberly Crossman, and various OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE' characters and others have we confirmed they will be helping out on the day.
For those not able to make it into Giapo, who still wish to support can make an online donation via Give-A-Little .
