Mikey Havoc Says Goodbye
For Immediate Release

A
Message from Mikey
Special Friends,
Our
listeners know that bFM is more than just a radio station,
it's a way of life.
It's a way of thinking.
It's all
that is great about radio.
It's a city.
It's a
sound.
Different voices introducing different viewpoints.
Igniting discussion and welcoming the world.
Playing the
music we love the best, to each other, for over 40
years.
A proud celebration of its diverse and fascinating
listenership.
I have now spent as many years wallowing in the broadcasting delight here at 95bFM as I did to grow from a baby into a 16 year old man.
16 years. It has shaped me almost as much as my Mum has.
In that time my friends, we have repeatedly gorged ourselves on ripe musical treasures and our taste has proven to be impeccable. Now, the whole country - and sometimes it feels like the world - get their kicks from the music and presence that we all have promoted, protected, and nurtured over the years.
I have been proud
to champion this station and all those who believe in it.
95bFM has been my companion during my proudest moments and
my accomplice in much fine mischief.
All the various
Havoc TV shows, Squid Bar, It's In The Bag, and all
those other gigs and performances wouldn't have been shit if
there hadn't been a B.
Go Auckland, you funky oonsty metropacifopolis, as petite as you you are cumbersome. Paradise on an Isthmus. In our own way, love it or hate it, we did some of this. Look around and remember we did it so that amongst other things the people after us at least had the option of organic groceries and knowing what a Kyuss is, etc.
Many of the greatest people I have known I met and worked with at B. I have been constantly inspired and absolutely spoilt with memories. Titanic, The Bowling Club, The Big Day Out, Oonst, and more and more.... so many bands, bars, festivals, parties, and beautiful, beautiful mental people.
Although Rangitoto Island still looks exactly the same, the universe continues on... and right now its hard to be a plucky, opinionated, clever, trendsetting student radio station. Business is delicate. Belts are being tightened all over the show, including at bFM. It can be hard. We have lives like you that cost money, but those of us who are paid at bFM are under no illusions - after all, it's a student radio station. Lately it's been hard for Mum to feed the kids, if you get my drift.
Therefore, I have decided that since I have had so many innings, of which I am eternally grateful... I'm gonna go do other stuff now.
I'm off this week. Last show on Friday afternoon.
I am so gonna miss you.
Fret not, it's my call. I still look way younger than my age with a full head of hair. I have plenty to attend too, and you will see what I mean soon.
I'll survive... and hopefully with one less big handsome noisy North Shore mouth to feed, bFM might retain a buck or two and just remain where we want it to be. Right here!
Stand by for the most indulgent week of radio ever.
Thanks... seriously.
I love you.
Mikey
Mike's last
Drive show at 95bFM will be Friday, December
3rd.
