Second for Hart, Third for Hamilton at Rotax Max Grand Finals in Italy
New Zealand drivers Josh Hart from Palmerston North and Matthew Hamilton from Christchurch have claimed podium places at the latest Rotax Max Grand Final meeting in Italy over the weekend.
The pair were part of a five-strong New Zealand team at the annual event with Hart claiming a close second in the Senior Max class, Hamilton third in DD2.
Both drivers have represented New Zealand at previous Grand Final events with a win in the Pre-Final and second in the Final Hart's best performance to date, and third in the DD2 final equaling the third place Hamilton claimed in the Senior Max class at the 2009 meeting in Egypt.
The three other team members enjoyed mixed fortunes.
Tauranga paraplegic Niki Urwin was pushed back to 33rd in the DD2 Masters Pre-Final but drove a storming Final to cross the line in 21st position.
Unfortunately fellow DD2 Masters competitor Hamish Cross's kart ground to a halt on the warm-up lap of the Pre-Final and after starting from the back of the grid the Rangiora man was only able to complete one lap of the Final, while Junior Andy Schofield from Cambridge did not make it past the final (second chance) Junior heat.
This year's Rotax Max Grand Finals meeting was contested by 252 drivers from 61 different countries.
