AdSchool grad show gets the thumbs-up
Media Design School’s AdSchool hosted its annual student graduate showcase on Wednesday night (17.11.10) at the Mini Garage on Ponsonby Rd.
The event, held at the top deck of the Mini Garage, was a huge success – attracting creatives from all the major agencies in Auckland including DDB, Colenso, DraftFCB and The Common Room.
AdSchool course leader Kate Humphries said that the graduate show was an opportunity for students to meet key players in the industry and show-off their work.
“Many of our students will actually get placements out of this evening, which in turn leads to agency jobs. Even the few who don’t will often make important connections this way. The graduate show is their time to shine, really, and for their future bosses to see the quality of work that they have produced during their time at Media Design School.”
Media Design School General Manager Frances Valintine said that the evening was a culmination of AdSchool students’ hard work throughout the year.
“The number of key creatives who took the time to attend the show is a reflection of the high regard that the industry has for our AdSchool graduates. In fact, we had so many people turn up that at one point in the evening, there were queues for all of the stations.”
Ms Valintine said that the graduate show was also a chance for industry to meet with students outside of the classroom, in a less formal social situation.
“I’ve had wonderful feedback after the event from very senior creatives saying how impressed they were by the polished, professional quality of the students’ black books (portfolios). The students work on creating advertising campaigns for actual products and services during the year, and this is in keeping with our ‘learning by doing’ policy for the AdSchool.”
Media Design School’s AdSchool was named the fourth best advertising school in the world by YoungGuns in September this year. Previous YoungGuns winners from Media Design School now work with leading local agencies such as Colenso and Special, and international agencies such as DDB Switzerland, Taxi in Toronto and The Hive in Dublin.
