City Showcase launch to include tribute to Ian Morris – November 25th

City Showcase is London’s leading not for profit festival for new music which takes place annually in London’s West End.
City Showcase is coming to Napier, New Zealand on 25-28 November with more than 40 bands from New Zealand and Australia
performing in Napier’s CBD. The winner of City Showcase: Spotlight New Zealand will win a trip to City Showcase:
Spotlight London 2011, sponsored by the British Council.
City Showcase: Spotlight New Zealand 2010 will launch with a tribute to the late Ian Morris on Thursday November 25th
6.30 pm, at the War Memorial Centre on Marine Parade. Local band Valve will play a selection of songs from Th’ Dudes.
Lead singer from Valve Shane Gibson said it was an honour to perform a tribute to the legendary Ian Morris who had
helped produce a song for them just weeks before his death.
“Ian Morris was an incredible musician and we were so fortunate that he was based here in Hawke’s Bay. He spent so much
time and energy encouraging aspiring musicians – he would have loved City Showcase,” Shane said.
Also performing will be influential New Zealand singer/songwriter Annah Mac and two bands with Havelock North High
School links, “Tuesday’s Gone” and Gareth Malan. The evening will be presented by Mike Chunn of “Play it Strange”.
The launch will be attended by Napier Mayor Barbara Arnott and Napier MP Chris Tremain.
City Showcase will continue throughout the weekend, creating a sensational musical village in the Napier CBD, with bands
playing in retail stores and cafes in the city and on the Jagermeister Bus, situated at Clive Square. In the evening,
well known evening venues including The Cabana, the Sideline Bar, Kazba will host gigs on both Friday and Saturday
night.
A Friday night gig will also be held in the Waiapu Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, featuring Rosy Tin Teacaddy,
Kotadama, Josh Leys and Miriam Clancy.
The weekend will finish with the Finding the Future Finale at the SoundShell on Sunday from midday.

• Over 40 bands have been selected (from more than 400 entries) to play for title of City Showcase : Spotlight New
Zealand winner. The winning band or artist scores a trip to play City Showcase: Spotlight London in May 2011 – sponsored
by British Council.

• Launch party starts at 6.30 at War Memorial Centre, Marine Parade, Napier and includes tribute from local band
Valve to Ian Morris. MP Chris Tremain and Mayor Barbara Arnott to attend. Wristband required for entry.
• Public to vote via text for favourite band throughout the weekend. Text the word ‘vote’ followed by a gap and

• Finale at the Sound Shell Marine Parade starts at 1pm. Doors open at 12.15pm Entry is by wristband.Audiences
should bring their picnics but please absolutely no alcohol permitted
• Music industry workshops on Friday and Saturday – open to public and all City Showcase musicians. NB. space may
