Canon's Photo Competition Identifying Real Talent
The 2010 Canon Photo5 competition has attracted almost 9000 entries representing some real talent, including budding photographers that are new to the craft.
The judges filtered down the entries to 10 finalists from the briefs categories and five finalists from the portfolio entries.
The briefs for 2010 were:
1. Eye Dropper/close up
2. Bubble Gum/
Portraiture
3.Incense/ Black and White
4. Confetti/
Capturing Motion
5. Inspired by Sound/ Open
Brief.
Entrants who completed all 5 briefs were automatically eligible for the portfolio entry competition.
Here are two images from one of the finalists. Louise Donnelly-Davey's images are titled “Green Confetti” (above), and (below) "Anticipation".
One of the finalists, Louise Donnelly-Davey, is new to photography, having bought her first camera a Canon DSLR (EOS 1000D) in June this year. Lou has been selected as a finalist in two categories (Bubble Gum, and Confetti).
Lou says: “Having only bought my Canon in late June 2010 as a birthday present to myself I was beyond chuffed to have made the finals in two briefs. I literally have not put my camera down since the day I brought her home!”
“Entering the Canon competition was just another way for me to gain experience and learn. When I saw that I was in the finals I nearly fell off my chair... and I cried.”
Lou says with photography she has found her passion: “To have someone else see something in my shots is just the hugest compliment ever. There was some incredible entries and my shots were by far the least technically perfect, so I am completely honored.
“I have told my husband that if I do win one of the briefs that I will take this chance to begin a professional career at doing something that I totally love,” Lou says.
The public are able to vote for the finalists up until November 24th 2010.
Also, all people who vote and answer a very simple question go into the draw to win the new EOS 60D.
