Short Filmmakers Shine On Festival Opening Night

Show Me Shorts Film Festival kicked off in Auckland last night with a glamorous opening and awards night. Finalists were competing in eight award categories, as judged by experienced film industry writer Kathryn Burnett, director James Cunningham and actor Tammy Davis.

This is Her was the big winner on the night, taking home the coveted Kodak Best Film Award along with Best Screen Play, while The Six Dollar Fifty Man continues its successful festival outings by taking away Best Director.

Judge Tammy Davis comments, “The quality of films entered was outstanding, it was a challenge for the judging panel to pick the winners, but awesome to see the level of filmmaking that is happening – especially the quality of the student films”.

KODAK BEST FILM – Felicity Letcher & Rachel Lorimer for ‘This is Her’
SPECIAL JURY PRIZE – Kurt Filiga for ‘Kurt-E: In My Blood’
SDGNZ BEST DIRECTOR – Mark Albiston & Louis Sutherland for ‘The Six Dollar Fifty Man’
SDGNZ BEST EDITOR – Hayley Lake for ‘Make Me’
SCRIPT TO SCREEN BEST SCREEN PLAY– Kate McDermott for ‘This is Her’
SCREEN HUB BEST STUDENT FILM – Zyra McAuliffe for ‘Four’
PANAVISION BEST CINEMATOGRAPHER – Jac Fitzgerald for ‘Choice Night’
STARNOW.COM BEST ACTOR – Cameron Rhodes for ‘Brave Donkey’

Festival Director Gina Dellabarca commented, “The winning films are scattered throughout our six themed sessions, so audiences can now choose to see them in the festival screenings. Katie Wolfe, director of Best Film winner ‘This is Her’, will be speaking about her film at the StarNow.com Short Filmmaking seminar in Auckland on Monday 8th November. Tickets for all Show Me Shorts sessions are available from your local participating cinema.”

Show Me Shorts Film Festival screens every November in cinemas across New Zealand, showcasing the best new Kiwi and Australian short film-making talent.
