What does it mean to be a woman in Auckland today?

PRESS RELEASE – 5 November 2010

What does it mean to be a woman in Auckland today?

To mark the YWCA Auckland’s 125th anniversary, the YWCA and The Aucklander are jointly running a photography competition, calling for images of our women in today's world. "In this photo competition, we expect to see inspired and inspiring photographs of women in Auckland today - empowered and embracing leadership in all roles in their lives," says Hilary Sumpter, YWCA Auckland’s CEO.

The YWCA has been working on women’s leadership development for 125 years, supporting the women of Auckland to be empowered; to be able to make informed choices in their lives.

The competition will run over three weeks in November and was announced yesterday in all four regions where the Aucklander is published. It will close Thurs 25th November at 5pm. Photographs will be posted on both YWCA and The Aucklander’s websites.

There are three entrant categories: Youth (12-18), Portrait and Creative Interpretation. Prizes for each of these categories (as well as overall winner and public choice) have been supplied by supporters Vodafone, Polaroid and Samsung and Beck Nunes.

Winners will be judged by The Aucklander’s chief photographer, YWCA Auckland Board Member, YWCA Marketing Manager and well known photographer Becky Nunes.

Winners will be announced at a cocktail party to be held by the YWCA on Wednesday 1st December at October Reign in Newmarket. This will be an exclusive opportunity to view and purchase the winning photographs. Winning image will be published in the Aucklander 2nd December.

Competition details are on The Aucklander’s website: www.theaucklander.co.nz ENDS
