$5.4 Million Lotto Powerball Winner Keeps Trucking

Media Release 03 November 2010

$5.4 Million Lotto Powerball Winner Keeps On Trucking

A South Auckland truck driver will keep on working despite winning $5.4 million on Lotto Powerball at the weekend, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

The very lucky player purchased a Combo 8 ticket from Bellbird Dairy and Lotto in Manukau. He not only correctly selected all six winning Lotto numbers, he also had the winning Lotto Bonus Ball and the winning Powerball number, meaning he picked up numerous lower divisions in addition to his $5 million Powerball First Division and $333,333 Lotto First Division prizes, bringing his total prize winnings to $5,426,291*.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, may look at cutting his hours back but has no plans to give up working.

“I won’t be getting carried away. My first priority is to get myself a house, and then look at helping out my kids and grandkids,” he said.

“Of course, it’s a good time of year to be winning – there will be some very nice Christmas presents this year!” laughed the winner.

The winner had picked his own numbers using a mixture of family birthdays and addresses.

The win comes just two weeks after another South Auckland man won the biggest Lotto Powerball prize in NZ Lotteries’ history, a massive $28.7 million.

* A Combo 8 ticket enables players to pick 8 numbers and receive a ticket entered for all 28 possible 6-number combinations of those numbers, with a Powerball number on each line as well. Because the winner had all six winning numbers, plus the Bonus Ball and the Powerball, he won 1 x First Division, 6 x Second Division, 6 x Division 3 and 15 x Division 4, all for both Lotto and Powerball.
