Lightfoot revs up for opening round

Auckland’s Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot is looking forward to getting behind the wheel when the New Zealand V8 Ute series gets underway at Pukekohe Park Raceway this weekend.

Preparing for his first full attempt on the series, Lightfoot has joined BSL racing, the motorsport specialists who prepare the number 96 Ford Falcon Ute. Lightfoot is looking to run near the front in a quality field that includes two drivers that have also contested the highly competitive Australian V8 Ute series, including defending NZ champion Chris Pither.

Although Pukekohe is the closest track to his Auckland home, he has never driven the Ute at the ultra-fast track but says the car is feeling great and can’t wait to get on the track.

Last season, Lightfoot joined the series half way through and after two round and six race podium finishes from three rounds he contested, snuck inside the top ten for the championship. This year, in his first full attack on NZ V8 Ute series, Lightfoot is aiming to consistently run inside the top five.

In a change to the series, the ENZED NZ V8 Utes will run as part of ‘tier one’ as one of the premier circuit racing classes across six rounds all across New Zealand.

“It is going to be great to get back behind the wheel,” says Lightfoot. “The boys at BSL Racing have done a great job preparing the car and I am sure that we will be able to run at the pointy end of what is a very strong V8 Ute field.”

Mike Lightfoot would like to thank his sponsors that have made his 2010/11 NZ V8 Ute series campaign possible: BSL Racing, Volvo Penta, Elf Lubricants, DHL Global Forwarding, Fleetline Spraypainters and Precision components.
