Fresh new plays come to life in R-evolution

Five fresh new plays, written and directed by graduating Unitec students, come to life on 28-31 October in R-evolution 2010. R-evolution is the annual showcase of new plays produced by Unitec's Department of Performing and Screen Arts in Mt Albert, Auckland.

The line-up for the four-day season features: The misery of too many cheeses, Toil and trouble, Symphonie Fantastique, Once upon a time in Spoontucket and The Boy and the Bicycle - a compelling mix of comedy, drama and music.

"All five of the stories have ultimately sprung from some place of truth for each writer," says Theatre writing tutor and prominent New Zealand playwright, Gary Henderson.

"For me as a tutor, it's been fascinating to get inside the ideas and visions of the writers; Ben Anderson, Sophie Fletcher, Shane Garnett, James Russell, and Joseph Harper as they've worked at crafting their stories into scripts which can in turn be translated into action, live on stage, before an audience."

All plays will show at the Unitec Theatre in Building 6 on Carrington Road (Entry 1), except for The Boy and the Bicycle which will show at the Flood House next to Long Black Cafe outside Building 1.

R-evolution officially kicks of the department's exciting 2010 Grad Season, which includes the third year acting students play Pentecost 10-20 November; the Dance Showcase: A Life Between Us - Celebrating 21 years of Unitec Dance on 18-21 November; the Screen Arts Grad Screening at Event Cinema 5, St Lukes on 22 November; and the Performing and Screen Arts Industry Evening on 23 November, being held during the Faculty of Creative Business and Industries Grad Show week.
