Schubertiade Concerts To Celebrate Chamber Music New Zealand's Diamond Anniversary
Join Chamber Music New Zealand in celebrating its 60th 'diamond' anniversary with an evening dedicated to the music of Austrian composer, Schubert.
Michael Houston joins the New Zealand String Quartet and double bass player Michael Steer in a series of Schubertiade concerts in 10 centres in October and November, beginning with a recital in Napier on Tuesday 26 October and travelling to Palmerston North, Wellington, Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Auckland and Hamilton before a final concert in New Plymouth on Saturday 6 November.
Schubertiades were informal social events which grew from Schubert's love of poetry, song and friendship and became popular events which have continued to the present day with regular Schubertiade festivals and series being presented all over the world.
Schubert's works proved immensely popular with subscribers in the organisation's 2008 unofficial subscriber survey voting five of the composer's works in the Top 20 Most Popular Chamber Music Pieces. The programme for Schubertiade features all-time favourites the Trout Quintet and the Notturno, as well as String Quartet No 15.
The
The concert coincides with the release of Staying in Tune: Chamber Music New Zealand at 60 - a publication written by Jane Dawson, looking back at the history of this country's largest presenter of top quality chamber music concerts. This will be gifted to all CMNZ subscribers at the concerts and available for purchase at the venues.
