Lotto Powerball Jackpots To Record $27 Million
Lotto Powerball has reached lofty heights this week, jackpotting to $27 million for next week’s draw, and potentially the biggest individual prize in NZ Lotteries’ history, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
“If this prize is won by one person next week, it’ll be the biggest individual prize ever won in New Zealand – as the $36 million Big Wednesday prize won in Masterton last year was won by a syndicate of four, appropriately named ‘Luck Of The Irish’,” says Mr McLeay.
The previous biggest Lotto Powerball prize of $22.4 million was won last October by a player from Manukau.
“There’s something about this month, because in October 2008, Powerball jackpotted right up to $30 million, reaching the threshold where we have to call a Must Be Won draw. On that occasion, the top prize was still not struck, so it was added to the Second Division prize pool where five players collected just over $6 million each.
“Winning a prize of this magnitude can be overwhelming for people, so we recommend the winner write their name on the back of their ticket and then contact NZ Lotteries on 04 802 7000, so we can give them all the information they need to claim their prize,” adds Mr McLeay.
Meanwhile, Paeroa postie Graeme Jamieson has kicked off the new look Lotto draw winning a credit card loaded with $100,000 on the Winning Wheel in Wellington this evening.
Graeme, who was joined at the draw by wife Mary, was the first Winning Wheel spinner to feature in a new concept for the draw that features an introduction to the winner in their home town, plus showcases their Lotto retailer and local lottery grants in the community.
Tonight’s Winning Wheel ticket was bought at Central Parade, Mount Maunganui. The serial number is 865-04060678-20xx.
Two other players from Whanganui and Auckland City also won a $814,417 share of Lotto First Division tonight. The winning tickets were purchased from New World Whanganui and online with MyLotto.
A Strike Four prize of $254,332 was also won by a player who purchased their ticket from The Warehouse, Pukekohe.
“Anyone who bought their ticket from any of the above winning stores should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any Lotto outlet."
All Lotto players are automatically in the draw to win the opportunity to spin Lotto’s Winning Wheel, regardless of the type of ticket they buy.
