Pink ‘greenhouse’ begins national drive for breast cancer in Wellington
A pink ‘greenhouse’ that will be auctioned off on Trademe with proceeds going to breast cancer research has begun a national tour to drive up the price.
Greenhouse specialists, Winter Gardenz, came up with the idea as a way to raise awareness of the disease and donate to the cause.
“I witnessed the emotional toll and physical
impact breast cancer can have on people when the mother of a
good friend was diagnosed,” says Winter Gardenz
spokesperson, Michelle Herrick.
“By learning
about self breast exams and early detection, many women can
catch it early and avoid the impact it has on themselves and
their families.”
The tour began in Kumeu in late September and will arrive in Wellington for the Home and Garden Show on October 8. Following stops in Gisborne and Taranaki, the tour will conclude in Christchurch at the Royal Show that runs from November 8-10.
“The Trademe auction will begin today and run through until November 12. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage everyone who has been touched by the disease to visit the auction on Trademe and place a bid,” says Mrs Herrick.
Winter Gardenz supplies a variety of
greenhouses. They cater for everything from a small urban
section to a large lifestyle block. The greenhouses are
suitable for growing tomatoes in winter, seedlings, orchids
and flowers or native trees. The ‘pinkhouse’ is known as
a Full Bloom 8x7 Greenhouse. It is 2.4m by 2.2m and retails
for
$1999.
